Dertiende Ster vzw was founded in 2008 by a group of adoptive parents after their return from Ethiopia. During their journey through Addis Ababa, they were confronted with both the beauty and the poverty of the country, and especially with the fate of the children. Some children were fortunate enough to attend school, while others lived as beggars on the streets.

The organization supports projects that help Ethiopian children build independent and quality lives. The aid provided by Dertiende Ster is specifically directed to the most vulnerable, with a focus on the projects of Yenege Tesfa, a local NGO in Gondar.

To support this work, Dertiende Ster organizes various activities and events in Belgium to raise awareness and funds. They also offer educational kits and teaching materials for schools, allowing young people to learn about life in Ethiopia and the challenges of the north-south divide in an interactive way.
